Analyzing the difficulty with which doctors manipulate their stent delivery systems demonstrated their need for a handle with improved control. Within an ultrasonically welded housing rests a precise insert-molded metal gear, offering the ease of mechanical advantage and reducing manufacturing costs. Humanfactors created a complete drawing package and performed an in depth stress analysis and tolerance study, learning that overly tight tolerances needlessly wear down moving components and create difficulties in assembly. With a sleek comfortable handle in place, Humanfactors created the loosest possible tolerances that still maintained optimal performance, saving additional manufacturing costs.
