Harnessing the body's healing mechanisms

Biofisica

Electronic Wound Care

Biofisica is an international company at the forefront of longterm wound care. With clinical, design, and marketing divisions around the world, Humanfactors has been instrumental in Biofisica's development since their inception five years ago. When an injury is sustained, the body sends an electric current to the damaged area. A cathode is inserted into the ulcer where it creates an electric field throughout the wound. This bandage system harnesses the body's innate healing mechanisms by augmenting or replacing this naturally occurring electric response.

Clinicals

The device’s efficacy was tested during a series of clinical trials where patients with long-term ulcers were treated with the bandage. Some of the patients suffered from ulcers deemed virtually uncloseable and were being treated merely for pain and infection. The bandage was able to close these wounds - some of which had been open for years - typically in a matter of weeks.

Design

The bandage is not overly complicated - it was designed to operate similar to a regular bandage. The user simply opens the package, removes the sterile protective strips, and places the donut-shaped bandage around the ulcer. Once in place, the cathode is placed inside the ulcer, and then the bandage flap is placed over the opening. Pull the power lever to activate the bandage and that’s all there is to it.
