With our research-based approach to developing instrumentation, Stryker trusted Humanfactors to embark on an objective, global investigation into companies, universities, and independent labs in order to paint a detailed picture of the nascent smart implant landscape—from niche tinkerers to established developers. Based on a comprehensive foundation of research and data gathering, Stryker was able to develop a strategy assessing the partnership, product, and acquisition opportunities found within this product space.

Update: It was announced January 5, 2021 (Globe Newswire) that Stryker acquired OrthoSensor (covered in our report), a leader in the digital evolution of musculoskeletal care and sensor technology for total joint replacement.

Global Obesity Report

Stryker is interested in understanding how the worldwide obesity epidemic may impact the orthopedic world. Humanfactors researched and analyzed this growing, complex issue, delving into everything from obesity’s various genetic and environmental causes, to its frequent comorbidities, strains on the healthcare system, impacts on the economy (e.g. missed days of work and workplace injuries), etc.

Stryker needed to consider how to approach this issue in a foreign country like, for example, Vietnam where obesity is on the rise—what are their healthcare reimbursement structures, how are orthopedists trained, how are their implants currently constructed? The purpose of this research is the help Stryker develop a global strategy for orthopaedic healthcare.
